How much time to do spend on analysis? Most people I talk to wish they had more time to do more analysis so they can see where there are opportunities to add value to the company. Start with the month financial statement analysis checklist on this site. Add to it, take items off that are not relevant. Analyze your analysis. What are you REALLY trying to figure out? Really ask the five why’s on this one. There is analysis to make sure that you have everything completed, and analysis that looks for potential savings, sales opportunities, etc. Split the analysis up and rotate it between different people every six months or so. That way no one gets complacent and they also get more exposed to the whole company.
